Thanks to generous support from the Sutter Foundation, scholarships for teen art classes are now available at the Crocker! The Museum aims to offer young people who are living in underserved communities or experiencing challenging family circumstances access to fine art instruction through its Studio Art Program.

The Crocker’s Studio Art Program offers students between the ages of 11 and 17 exposure to world-renowned art, high-quality art instruction, and hands-on art-making designed to inspire creative expression and enhance artistic skill development.

Scholarships are available for two classes this summer:

The Fantastic Book Club for Reluctant and Voracious Readers - ages 11-13
(Four Thursdays, July 13 – August 3, 10 AM – 12 PM)
The Crocker is taking summer reading to the next level! Join a book club for kids led by kids with some guidance by an adult book worm. Along with book discussions, there will be art lessons, gallery explorations, art talks, and lots of cool activities that bring the book to life.

Careers in Art: Digital Photography Portfolio - ages 14-17
(Monday – Friday, July 24 – 28, 1 – 4 PM )
Explore careers and build skills in photography with a professional photographer. Assemble a portfolio suitable for college applications while you learn about different fields, including portraiture and fine art photography. Discussion will be complemented with plenty of hands-on practice and an opportunity to produce a professional-quality portrait.

How to qualify:
To be considered for a full scholarship, youth should submit proof of the family’s participation in one of the following programs:

  • WIC
  • Medi-Cal
  • CalWORKs (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids)
  • CalFresh (formerly known as Food Stamps)

Things to know:

  • Classes are open to students of various skill levels; no experience is necessary unless noted.
  • Every class includes at least one gallery visit to view part of the permanent collection or a special exhibition.
  • Students are responsible for transportation to and from classes. Missing classes may result in the participant’s ineligibility to participate in the program.
