The Crocker invites families to think of the Museum as a place to learn, play, and grow.

The Crocker Art Museum is proud to serve the community as a welcoming destination for families with young children. Strollers are welcome in the Museum and available on a first come, first serve basis. Baby-changing stations are available in most restrooms. Have a question? Ask for help! Staff and security officers are here to answer any questions or direct you where you’d like to go.

Tips for family visits

• The Museum's galleries are friendly and simple to navigate through our Family Adventure Guide (available in English and Spanish)
• Art you can touch. In the engaging environment of Tot Land, creativity is encouraged. Tot Land provides opportunities for creative play, sensory exploration, art making, and literacy development. Tot Land is now open!

Help keep the Crocker Healthy

The Crocker Art Museum encourages visitors to support the health and safety of our community. The Sacramento County Department of Health Services recommends immunizations as the best way to protect against vaccine preventable diseases. We ask caregivers to screen their children’s health so everyone can enjoy a safe and clean environment. Please keep your children home if they are sick, and we thank you for practicing frequent hand washing.

Family Programs

Our team of professional art educators offer dozens of education programs each month tailored to a variety of families. These include specialized programs with structured activities that engage children 5 and younger in ways that spark communication, creativity, and self-expression, and tours and art-based programs designed specifically for children who are learning at home. The Crocker is committed to serving children on the autism spectrum and their families through free and low-cost programs, many of which aresupported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Baby Loves Art
Baby Loves Art engages babies (up to 18 months old) in a visually stimulating gallery walk and gives parents and caregivers a fun opportunity to connect with their babies and each other. All baby noises are expected and welcome. Strollers are allowed, and front carriers are recommended for the best art view. Please, no backpacks or rear carriers.

Wee Wednesdays
Bring your preschooler to this fun story time and gallery adventure for children ages 3 to 5. Each week, children engage with different works of art through dialogue and interactions that encourage visual literacy, social-emotional development, creative confidence, and museum familiarity.

Art on the Spectrum
Children on the autism spectrum or with other developmental differences are invited to a special morning of artistic exploration. Starting before public hours, participate in music therapy and art activities. Structured support, drop-in programs, social narratives, noise-canceling headphones, and a quiet space all make this a wonderful and easy-going morning. Space is limited, and advanced registration is required.

Kids & Co. Gallery Adventures
Amusing and educational, this tour is the perfect way to introduce art to children ages 5 and older and the adults who tag along with them. Come back every month for a totally new experience.
