The Crocker Art Museum’s newest wonder-filled Art Spot, PL!NK, is springing up in a surprise location at the Museum from July 23 through October 29!
Created by UC Davis professors of design Glenda Drew and Jiayi Young, PL!NK inspires creativity and spatial learning by inviting children to engage in an environment of more than 100 tetrahedron clusters comprised of mirrors and colorful Plexiglas. An experimentation station allows little visitors to create their own shape-based forms, and the experience enables color and pattern recognition through play.
Inspired by kaleidoscopic configurations, this large-scale artwork combines real-time sound and graphics based on user-generated content.
Funded in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and First 5 Sacramento, the Crocker’s experimental Art Spots program involves a series of four experiential art installations designed for children age 5 and younger and their caregivers.
Each Art Spot is created by a different artist or team after participating in the Crocker’s ongoing early childhood programming to gain a thorough understanding of children’s developmental needs and interests.
The first Art Spot, Gato, appeared in the Museum’s historic building in May. Created by Davis-area artists Michelle Lee and Darin Reyes, the installation allows children to step into the dream world of a giant toy cat that awakens the senses in everyone, particularly little museum visitors. (Gato is on view through October 29, 2017)
In the fall, the Museum will unveil a new Tot Land installation created by Bay Area artist Martin Webb. And rounding out the first season of Art Spots is the festive and immersive 3-D installation, Wingding, created by local artist Sonja White.
Remember, general admission to the museum is just $10 for nonmember adults and $8 for youth. Children 6 and younger are always free!
