On September 10th, come celebrate the launch of our newest Art Spot and the grand reopening of Tot Land! Inspired by Spirit Canoe in the Museum’s permanent collection, artist Martin Webb has re-imagined Tot Land as an adventure that is both mysterious and playful.
The new Tot Land experience will feature a large boat populated with whimsical human and animal figures and geometric shapes that encourage creative exploration.
Webb hopes the interactive installation will inspire children to explore both physically and with their minds. The boat, symbolizing discovery and adventure, invites Tot Land visitors on a Museum journey to new worlds with their imaginations.
“I hope children will feel drawn in and feel compelled to lose themselves in imaginative games of their own invention. I anticipate a lot of characterization, role-play, and social learning within groups of children.”

The current Tot Land is temporarily closed to visitors for exciting new renovations and will reopen September 10th for Super Sunday Playday, an art party extravaganza for our youngest visitors and their families.
Tot Land is geared toward visitors ages 5 and younger and is the third in a series of four experimental art installations popping up around the Crocker.

Gato, a giant toy cat that awakens the senses in everyone, particularly little museum visitors, open until October 29.
PL! NK, the kaleidoscopic configuration of more than 100 tetrahedron clusters comprised of mirrors and colorful Plexiglas, open until October 29.
And coming in November is the festive and immersive 3-D installation, Wingding, created by local artist Sonja White, opening November 19.
