Eunice Prieto was educated at Alfred University in New York, the foremost program for ceramic study. It was there that she met her husband, Antonio Prieto. In 1946, she moved to the Bay Area with Antonio and completed an M.F.A. at the California College of Arts and Crafts.
For many years Eunice Prieto taught and threw pots alongside her husband, ceramist Antonio Prieto. She exhibited these sgraffito-decorated wares both with his and on their own. Vases and decorative bowls like this one often incorporated joyfully abstracted figures, but they also included simplified representations of animals and fish as well as purely geometric designs.
